Bexar County CPS and San Antonio Central Library Work Together to Find Homes for CPS Children
CPS ADOPTION AWARENESS MONTH CONTINUES San Antonio— Bexar County Child Protective Services has teamed up with the San Antonio Central Library to encourage local families to ‘Open Your Heart, Open Your Home’. The special collaboration is focused on getting out the message that hundreds of local youngsters are still hoping and waiting to be adopted. The special Adoption Awareness Month tribute features photographs of dozens of children in the care of CPS, now ready for adoption. For the month of November, the downtown library is featuring two separate displays highlighting the need for adoptive parents, on both the second and third floors of the facility. The exhibits can be seen in the Government Documents section on the second floor, and in the special area designated for children on the third floor. An information and sign-up table is also set up along with the display. The theme, ‘Open Your Heart, Open Your Home’, is showcased alongside the photographs, which include older children and sibling groups. Teddy bears, adorned with ribbons, are used to hold up pictures of the children. A colorful banner running the length of the escalator announces the theme. A glass case encloses even more pictures of adorable children awaiting adoptive families, along with more Teddy bears. A special committee from the local Department of Family and Protective Services designed the poignant display, which will be featured throughout the month of November—National Adoption Month. “This amazing partnership between Child Protective Services and the San Antonio Central Library shows the library’s special commitment to all children, as well as their caring and concern for children who have been victims of abuse or neglect”, said Bexar County CPS Program Administrator Sherry Gomez. “It is the type of dedication that will go far in assuring that our children will be safe and secure—the type of collaboration that we hope to continue for years to come”, she said.
