Agency Overview

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) works with communities to promote safe and healthy families and protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We do this through investigations, services and referrals, and prevention programs.

DFPS does this through its five major programs:

  • Statewide Intake
  • Adult Protective Services
  • Child Protective Investigations
  • Child Protective Services
  • Prevention and Early Intervention

The DFPS commissioner oversees more than 12,000 employees in 328 local offices located in 11 regions and a state headquarters in Austin. You can learn more about the agency at the DFPS website.
