Jose Martinez has been employed by the Department of Family and Protective Services for the past 34 years and is currently the Chief Consumer Affairs and Accountability Officer, overseeing the Office of Appeals, the Office Child Risk and Safety, and the Office of Consumer Affairs.  He began his career with DFPS’s legacy agency in 1988 as a Child Protective Services Investigator and later worked as an on-the-job trainer for Child Protective Services staff in the Austin area.  In 1994, Martinez joined the department’s Office of the Ombudsman, handling complaints and legislative inquiries about agency programs, including Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, and Child Care Licensing. In 2004, Martinez was promoted to Manager of the Office of the Ombudsman, which was later renamed the Office of Consumer Relations and recently, the Office of Internal Affairs.

Mr. Martinez is a graduate of Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to his employment with DFPS, he worked as a correctional officer in the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
