Ric Zimmerman serves as the associate commissioner of DFPS Statewide Intake (SWI) and the Youth Hotlines. SWI is the centralized point of intake for child abuse and neglect, abuse, neglect or exploitation of the elderly or adults with disabilities, clients served in State Hospitals, State Supported Living Centers, as well as licensed child-care facilities, foster care and residential treatment providers for the entire State of Texas. Since 2011 Ric has provided leadership and direction to approximately 450 SWI and Youth/Runaway Hotline employees.
Prior to returning to SWI, Ric served as the Community Services contract manager for DADS and managed DADS staff responsible for the policy and federal coordination of Community Based Medicaid Waivers. Ric began his state career in Texas in 1991 with Travis County Child Protective Services (CPS). Prior to that he worked 3 years for CPS in Michigan. Ric has performed every possible role in CPS: Investigations, Substitute Care, Adoption, Family Preservation, and Intake. He was an intake specialist at SWI from 1997-2001.
