The DFPS Voluntary Adoption Registry is a mutual-consent registry. It allows adoptees, birth parents, and birth siblings who were adopted from DFPS and are now adults or who are looking for a person adopted from DFPS to voluntarily attempt to locate each other by listing in the registry.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (including CPS) or its legacy agencies or programs must have been involved in the placement and adoption in question.
A "match" occurs when an adopted person and his/her birth parent or biological sibling register. Then everyone involved must attend at least one hour of counseling to help prepare for a reunion. The person providing the counseling must have expertise in adoption and search and reunion. The counseling will explore a variety of issues relating to your search and possible reunification. The registry will release the name, address and phone number of the adopted person only after all parties involved complete the counseling.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Provide sufficient proof of identity (copies of birth certificate, drivers license, passport, marriage certificate, etc.).
- Pay a $15 registration fee.
