How do I make sure the caregiver maintains the same quality of care?
Keep talking with the caregiver. Know all of the people who care for your child during the day. Ask to see weekly activity plans and food menus. Ask how your child is behaving, getting along with others, making progress, and if the child is doing anything unusual.
Keep talking to your children. Ask them how their day went, what they did, whom they saw or if anything special happened. If your child doesn't want to go back, try to find out why, and then follow up with the caregiver.
Report concerns. If you see anything that may affect a child's health or safety, contact us as soon as possible.
Report child abuse or neglect or illegal operations immediately to the Texas Abuse/Neglect Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 or online at https://www.txabusehotline.org. The hotline is open all day, every day of the year. Report emergencies by calling 9-1-1 or your local police. The law protects people who make reports in good faith from legal liability.
If you have more general concerns, call your local CCL office or our statewide child-care information line. The child care information line is 1-800-862-5252. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or you can leave a message and someone will call you back.
