The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 was enacted to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access. The ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, state and local government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation, and telecommunications. Public accommodations are private entities that own, lease to, or operate facilities and include child-care operations such as day care centers and registered and licensed child care homes.
