A Human Services Technician helps staff and supervisors by providing certain services to CPS clients. They also prepare and maintain statistical records, case records, and related files.
This position offers a lot of variety. You will interact with lots of agency staff and your support will be very important to families. What you do is very important to the Agency’s success. No two days will be exactly the same!
In many ways, your job will have a big impact on children and families because of the work you do.
What kinds of things will I be doing?
- Transporting clients - mostly children - in your personal vehicle.
- Handling verbal abuse by children or parents who may be angry and scared.
- Working under pressure when a quick response is needed in a crisis situation.
- Staying objective and having empathy with families who live in stressful situations, and with people who might have abused children.
- Working on a team, which involves helping with crisis situations in other units.
- Documenting and organizing information in a computer system and on paper.
- Various clerical duties such as typing, filing, faxing, copying, answering/receiving telephone inquiries, etc.
Do I need a college degree?
No, to be a Human Services Technician you do not need a college degree.
What would my salary be?
The starting salary range is $2127.73 to $3047.58 per month and is based on your experience and qualifications.
Will I get trained on what to do?
Yes! Specific training is currently in development for this job. And though you will be transporting and supervising clients on your own, you will have ongoing support from caseworkers and your supervisor any time you need it.
Conditions of Employment
You must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license. Like all DFPS employees, you will have a criminal background check and a DFPS history check. You also must be able to type and have basic computer skills.
