Handbook Revision, December 1, 2022

These revisions of the Child Protective Services Handbook were published on December 1, 2022.

On September 1, 2017, the investigations branch of CPS became a separate division named Child Protective Investigations (CPI). Until CPI develops its own policy handbook, investigation policies and procedures will remain in the CPS Handbook.

Home Screening Interviews (PATS 13782)

This handbook revision updates Foster and Adoptive Home Development (FAD) policy to describe the diligent efforts required to locate and contact an adult who is the child of a prospective parent for a home screening interview.

With this new policy, if a waiver or variance is required for an adult child interview, FAD staff will go through HHS Child Care Regulation (CCR) for approval. Obtaining CCR’s approval is already current practice for interviews of children who are 12–17 years old.
