First Lady Launches Network of Nurture

Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott and DFPS Commissioner Hank Whitman are asking faith partners across Texas to help provide support to youth and families in the child welfare system. Through their Network of Nurture Initiative, the First Lady and DFPS are seeking to find loving homes, educate parents, and provide support for the youth in foster care by promoting a partnership between DFPS and faith partners in Texas communities. Lt. Governor Requests Help from the Faith Community

Join the Care Portal. CarePortal is an online tool that connects churches with Child Protective Services (CPS) workers and the people they protect. When CPS workers have children and families in need, they go online to CarePortal and submit a request for help. After churches have signed up, they have the opportunity to fulfill those needs. Now, more than ever, the Department must engage its community partners to work alongside Child Protective Services in caring for children and families involved in the child welfare system.  Faith communities offer a network willing to provide a continuum of care – from working with families to prevent children entering the child welfare system, to recruiting foster and adoptive parents, providing support services for families involved with CPS, or helping children safely reunify with their parents.  Support groups, mentoring, respite care, prayer groups, and donations of goods and services are just a few ways that faith-based communities can meaningfully engage.
