Antidepressants

Antidepressants are used in children to treat symptoms of depression and other conditions

Symptoms of depression may include:

  • Feelings of hopelessness or helplessness
  • Loss of energy
  • Changes in appetite
  • Weight gain or weight loss
  • Not being able to enjoy activities the child used to enjoy
  • Thoughts of suicide

Antidepressants help with other conditions:

  • School phobias
  • Panic attacks
  • Eating disorders
  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Bedwetting
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD)
  • Personality disorders
  • Sleeping problems
