DFPS Centralized Background Check Unit
Handbook Revision, August 2013
This revision of the DFPS Centralized Background Check Unit Operating Handbook was published on August 1, 2013. Summaries of new or revised items are provided below.
The exemptions to this policy are revised by deleting the reference to Health Passport accounts.

The policy on waivers is revised to require that a person who is approved for a nonexpiring waiver must notify the CBCU if the background check requirement of the person's employer changes.

The definition of the term criminal conviction is revised by deleting the reference to the term pre-trial diversion. Definitions for the following terms are added: barred, cleared, contraindication, DFPS History Check, and SWI.

When Access Is No Longer Needed
A requirement is added that DFPS sponsors must notify the CBCU when a person either is no longer employed by DFPS or no longer needs access to the DFPS network.

Criminal and DFPS Histories
The criminal and DFPS history charts referenced in the 2600 Procedures section are replaced with the versions referenced in policies regarding DFPS employees. The population required to provide proof of no out-of-state criminal history is changed from persons who have lived outside of Texas for the previous five years to persons who have lived outside of Texas for the previous two years. Added an item requiring the self-reporting of new criminal incidents. Added an item on the monitoring by SWI of new abuse and neglect investigations.
