Handbook Revision, September 15, 2023
These revisions of the Child Protective Services Handbook were published on September 15, 2023.
On September 1, 2017, the investigations branch of CPS became a separate division named Child Protective Investigations (CPI). Until CPI develops its own policy handbook, investigation policies and procedures will remain in the CPS Handbook.

Completing a Removal Affidavit (PATS 14002)
This handbook revision updates policy to require staff to do the following:
- In the removal affidavit, staff must document all reasonable efforts made to prevent the removal.
- Staff must ensure they are able to testify to all reasonable efforts to return the child home before beginning the trial on the merits.
- In IMPACT, staff must document all reasonable efforts made to return the child home.
